This medium suburban garden near Hampton Court was in need of a complete redesign, the clients wanted a traditional, curvy garden.
The result is a garden that gives the owners great pleasure, soon the plants will fill the space and the climbers will soften the harder edges. This garden is all about abundance with its curving beds filled with billowing perennials and multi-stemmed trees. The Oak pergola provides a structured seating area from which my client can read and enjoy the scents of the mock orange, the climbing roses and the jasmine that surround it.
At the back of the garden, through a double arch of beautifully scented Jasmine, is a woodland garden. Here, the stems of Himalayan silver birch shine in the light and their leaves flutter in the breeze, the underplanting is a mix of ferns, foxgloves, clipped balls and Thalictrum. In the centre a large urn water feature lets water softly cascade onto the stones below it.
At night, the garden is lit and turns into a magical space.
